Simon Spurr was born in Kent, England in 1974. He studied in London and graduated from Middlesex University in 1996 with a B.A. in Men's Fashion Design. Soon after graduating, Spurr was hired to design menswear for Saint Laurent, working under the close guidance of Hedi Slimane. In 2001, Spurr was recruited to New York City to serve as head Menswear Designer for cK Calvin Klein and in 2003 he became Design Director for Ralph Lauren Purple Label and Ralph Lauren Black Label.
In the Fall of 2006 Spurr launched his eponymous menswear line, SPURR, with three distinct styles of American-made selvage jeans. Over the course of 2007, the line was expanded to include sportswear, suiting and accessories, quickly establishing SPURR as a full lifestyle brand. In 2009, the brand was broadened once again with the creation and development of SIMON SPURR, a designer collection which paralleled and complemented the newly-contemporized SPURR. SIMON SPURR and SPURR are sold at leading retailers worldwide including Bergdorf Goodman, Jeffrey New York, Saks Fifth Avenue, Luisa Via Roma, The Webster, Confederacy, Harrods, Bloomingdales, Scoop and Nordstrom.
Simon Spurr's clean and confident design aesthetic is clearly informed by both his English upbringing as well as by his years spent working with Hedi Slimane, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. His approach to design is firmly built upon a framework that emphasizes color, proportion and deliberate subtly. His slim-fitting suits are modern in their cut, color and fabric. Simultaneously, they are unarguably sophisticated with precision in tailoring that finds its roots in the heart of Savile Row. Garments are individually designed and manufactured to the highest standards in Italy, France and the US using the finest Italian, English and Japanese fabrics.
Since its creation in 2006, the SPURR Brand has been honored with many accolades from the fashion industry. In 2007, DNR awarded SPURR with the ‘Editor’s Choice Award for Best New Label.’ In February 2008, GQ, in conjunction with the CFDA, heralded SPURR as one of the ‘Best New Menswear Designers in America.' In 2009, Tommy Fazio, Men's Fashion Director at Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus resigned from his position and joined SPURR as the president of the company. That same year, Simon Spurr received the prestigious nomination for the CFDA/VOGUE Fashion Fund Award. Most recently, Simon Spurr is one of the final nominees for the CFDA's Swarovski Award for Menswear, 2010.
Simon Spurr debuted both of his collections in his first runway show during New York Fall '10 Fashion Week. Highlights of the show included fully-canvassed tailoring, hand-finished leather and hand-knit cashmere sweaters. Both the SIMON SPURR and SPURR collections demonstrated the designer's emphasis on the quality and integrity of his product. Spurr's educated and grounded understanding of design was coupled with cultural references ranging from Tommy Nutter to Babyshambles, clearly highlighting the essence of the SIMON SPURR brand: Modern British elegance.
Simon Spurr currently resides in New York City with his wife Dr. Justine Kahn.
